I Thought My Hair Was the Problem—Turns Out It Was the Water
For years, I struggled with my hair. No matter what shampoo I used, or how many salon treatments I tried, it always felt dry, frizzy, and lifeless. I blamed the weather. I blamed my genetics. I even blamed my busy lifestyle.
But not once did I blame the water I was showering with.
One afternoon, while venting to a friend over coffee, she casually asked,
"Are you using a filter on your shower?"
I laughed. A filter? For my shower? I thought filters were for drinking water—not bath time.
But that question stuck with me. That night, I went down a rabbit hole of research and discovered that most tap water contains chlorine, heavy metals, rust, and other harsh minerals that can seriously damage hair and skin over time.
I figured I had nothing to lose. I ordered a filtered shower head, installed it in minutes, and didn’t expect much. But within a few days, I noticed something different. My hair felt smoother—even when air-dried. After a week, it looked shinier. My scalp wasn’t itchy anymore. My skin, too, felt less tight after showers.
It was like my hair finally got a break from years of hidden damage.
Now I tell everyone: it wasn’t my hair that was the problem—it was the water.
And switching to a filtered shower head? That’s the best beauty decision I’ve ever made.
